Monstera Dubia, also known as the Shingle Plant, is a unique and fascinating plant that belongs to the Araceae family. It is native to Central and South America.
This tropical plant is loved for its striking foliage, which consists of large, glossy, and heart-shaped leaves that grow in an overlapping pattern, resembling shingles on a roof. If you are lucky enough to own a Monstera Dubia, here is a comprehensive care guide to help you keep it healthy and thriving.
Light Requirements:
Monstera Dubia enjoys bright, indirect light. It thrives when placed near a window where it receives filtered sunlight. However, it is important to avoid exposing it to direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. If you notice the leaves turning yellow or brown, it might be an indication that the plant is receiving too much light.
Temperature and Humidity:
This plant thrives in warm and humid conditions, similar to its natural habitat. Ideally, the temperature should be kept between 65-85¬?F (18-29¬?C). Avoid placing it in drafty areas or near heating or cooling vents. To maintain the desired humidity level, you can mist the foliage regularly or place a humidifier nearby. Alternatively, you can create a humidity tray by filling a shallow tray with water and placing the plant on top, ensuring that the plant's roots are not submerged in water.
Watering:
Monstera Dubia prefers consistently moist soil, but be cautious not to overwater it. Before watering, check the top inch of soil, and if it feels dry, it's time to water. Water thoroughly until the excess water drains out from the bottom of the pot. Empty the drainage tray to avoid waterlogging. During the winter months, reduce the frequency of watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
