Also known as the snake plant (Dracaena trifasciata, formerly Sansevieria trifasciata), this nearly indestructible houseplant from West Africa features tall, sharp, sword-like leaves. It thrives on neglect, making it perfect for beginners, and is highly regarded for its ability to filter indoor air pollutants.
Key Care Requirements
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but adapts beautifully to low-light corners. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Less is more. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In summer, water every 2–3 weeks; in winter, reduce to once every 4–6 weeks. Never let it sit in standing water, as this causes root rot.
Soil: Use a well-draining cacti or succulent potting mix.
Toxicity: Keep out of reach of pets and small children, as the leaves are mildly toxic if ingested
